Lu Xun

Lu Xun wrote Diary of a Madman which, as the title implies, was based on the diary of a madman who thought that everyone in his village was plotting to eat him. This was a very disturbing story about a very real topic: Cannibalism. However, it is up to personal debate as to whether or not the village people actually wanted to eat him, because such a thing was not uncommon for the time period. Cannibalism is not something that we have to worry about in today's society because we are never in the position to where we would have to eat another human in order to survive. Dr. Vince mentioned that he has watched the movie, The Road, and although I have yet to see the movie, I have read the book. Cormac McCarthy's novel on a post-apocalyptic society is one of the most depressing books I have ever read. While our class was on the topic of cannibalism I couldn't help but think back to a movie my friend and I watched over the summer called Hunger.
We were bored and just randomly decided to watch this movie, and the entire movie consisted of 6 people that were kidnapped and locked in a dungeon and their only food source was each other. So as you can already guess when the hunger within them took over, they started to eat each other. I can easily say that I would never resort to eating another human being no matter what the condition, yet I also have never been in the position as to where I would have to make this decision and I hope I never am.
